Agreed that the buddy may have prevented worse by getting someone to call for aid.
However, if the buddy saw the problem building up, it would have been great if s/he could have prevented the fast ascent alltogether.
Again, no offense to the buddy. It is the victim's responsibility not to dive if she is not trained to do the dive. According to the report, she was not.
