I don't shop at Divers Discount Supply for the reasons pointed out in this thread, but I think it's only fair to note that DDS is one of the major sponsors of this board. Perhaps they deserve some credit for helping to facilitate a lively(!) and educational discussion of diving in California.
Of course, none of this matters if there is nowhere to provide fills and instruction … hence my decision to give my business to a local dive shop.
Also, in the long run, the mail order houses run the risk of shooting themselves in the foot because there won't be a market for scuba gear at any price if there aren't local shops to train new divers and fill our tanks. Unfortunately, if that happens, we all lose too.
