Seems many of us are of the same mind. I also agree about the splitting on purpose, then being concidered solo. To take that a step further, if my buddy takes off on me, and after looking for him/her, I then decide to continue w/o, again I/we become solo divers. But I do not consider myself a solo diver if after looking for my buddy and not being able to find him/her, I head back to the boat alone. This is NOT a choice to return solo, but a condition that was thrust upon be w/o my approval. And if something happens that my buddy could have helped me with, it's not because I was solo diving, but was an abandoned diver. It makes no more since to say I was solo diving when my buddy left me, than to say I swam out to Anacapa to dive because the boat I was with left me. Now while I have been abandoned by a buddy, so far, I've not been left by a boat.
