I had Lasik done in September 1999 and was back diving three weeks after the surgery.

I consulted with two Lasik surgeons, both of them divers, and they suggested two and four weeks hiatus periods respectively.

The two biggest threats of diving after Lasik are

(1) infection
This threat can be ruled out after one week.

(2) dislodging of the corneal flap
Water squirting sideways onto the eye can dislodge the corneal flap which is why up to four weeks are suggested without diving. I would say that water skiiers are at higher risk, but then, even an ill-fitting AGA mask may squirt water at your eyes at every breath.

Bottom line: ask your surgeon and follow his advice. If he suggests more than four weeks, ask him why he is so conservative.
