I don't quite understand why you are confused.
I made two points:
(1) that it is not valid proof of experience to breathe air that may be toxic. It is quite the contrary. If, by saying that, I beat a dead horse, I apologize
(2) Like Gerry Smith and steven, I said that a buddy would only have been of help if he was smarter and had not breathed that air. And by saying that I agree with you that a good buddy could have saved this man--but I think he could have stopped him from breathing the air in the first place, so no rescue would ever have been necessary.
It is not "or" in that I'm agreeing with you that experineced guys can do stupid things and wind up dead. I have never rejected that. You must confuse me with someone else.
