Good comments Eins. I know for me, I have tought about doing a dive/s with a buddy that I wouldn't do solo, single or whatever you want to call it. Thinking on them, I believe that if I didn't feel confident enough to do it solo, then I wasn't ready for it as a buddy. Something I need to remember.
