Ken, you haven't yet responded to my third definition: independent diving with a group which I've been doing safely and successfully for over 36 years. Also, everyone is ignoring the issue of buddy liability which can lead to some serious litigation. Relatives of fatalities have prevailed in court and surviving buddy's have lost their assets!
