Chris, I dove the old fashion backpack though most of the 70's, but changed over to jacket and then a Zeagle and now a plate.
My plate rides my single tank much closer then the the old style backpack. If you are using a Seatec plastic molded backpack, that backpack holds the tank almost an inch off your back it also holds air and water in it, this is old technology.
The Plate and wings is a better steamline system.
Chris why don't you use a BC?
