I carry a heavy Hartenberger light (weighs two lbs underwater and six topside) on my lanyard.
It is a 3mm bungee cord.
I attach the light onto a carabeener by its lantern grip and use the lanyard for safety. But this lanyard had to hold the full weight many times when the light came off (which usually happens when I enter a boat).
