Just a few comments in the "Attitude" expressed by your post. I myself have NEVER been trained in the use of an Octopus in either my Basic, Openwater, Advanced or Divemaster courses, the reason is these were a long time ago. The answer that it's use is in the event of an out of air situation should be clarified in that in the event your buddy experiences an OOA situation both can breathe of the remaining tank concurrently.
