We get our fair share of trolls and this question was either a troll or someone who paid absolutely NO attention in his class.. If, as you say, that a long time ago prior to the advent of octopuses it wasn't taught then you have been diving for many, many years. As such, you would have been apprised of these changes, or atleast have noticed them during your DM tenure. Had you just gotten certified and did not know what an octopus was fro, either you paid no attention, or your instructor was an idiot and should be reported...
