I tend to agree, Jim. I think that is why you see
most people "walking in" whenever possible. I mention
the "buddy technique," because every instructor I ever
worked with, and every class I've witnessed on beach
diving teaches that approach. I think some of this debate
could be traced back to the "buddy approach" to diving
in general. Some instructors/teaching systems are adamant
about doing EVERYTHING together. In some situations, a buddy
is a hindrance. But buddy-beach-entry is still a by-the-book
approach. I don't care to comment on how much that's worth.
