Hey, when I took the LA County ADP course, they always insisted we come out of the surf with snorkels, not regs, in mouth, screaming at us from the shore if we came in on regs and requiring us to go back out and come in again with snorkels. I was told by one of the instructors that this was to prevent risk of embolizing. Seemed to me then, as it does now, that there's a heck of a lot greater risk of sucking water than embolizing on a surf exit, and so I always exit with reg in mouth. I contacted DAN on this point as well; DAN didn't weigh in with advice but also didn't confirm the theory espoused by ADP.
