because I am breathing very hard during my return to terra firma. Probably the fighting with undertow and balance, but I suck and blow hard on the reg making a frightening sound. The bigger the surf, the worse it is! And if I am on the bottom, there is a chance of pressure changes from passing waves, but when in the surf zone under water while alternating between holding sand with my fingertips and kicking like hell, again, I cannot breath hold!
So I am sticking with my method that prevents me from drinking the ocean and keeps the reg out of the sand.
