Sport Chalet told me it was not possible to and simply refused to provide a hydro with the + rating (10% overfill) for my 5 year old LP95. So I called DOT and got the real story. They informed me that the tanks can be "+" rated if they meet the "+" rating test requirements. You just have to go to an approved test facility to have the test performed. They mailed me a long list of vendors in proximity to my location by zip code. At that point it was apparent it really was not hard to find a shop that would do so. I called the first two shops I do business with and since have had a LP 80 and LP 95 "+" rated.

Both the Aquatic Center in Newport Beach and Divers Outlet in San Dimas can send LP tanks out for "+" ratings.

It has been awhile but I recall there was a limit of 25 years on the tank for "+" ratings. When in doubt, go to the source, and call Department of Transportation.
