one trend i've observed while being at the aq
for 1.5 years now is that those who are putting
their hearts and souls into this organization
are actually the same ones who go off and become
professional teachers, or they head the classes
that are provided by the aq.

so, when it comes to divers, the 'worthy cause'
may perhaps be broken down into generally two
categories:

**some may volunteer b/c they know how
to dive and want to do something out of the
goodness of their hearts (perhaps some of them
feel that they never get to dive tropical waters,
but diving the tropical reef exhibit at the aq
provides them w/that elusive opportunity and
allows them to interact w/the fish which they
don't do in open water), while at the same time
thay are helping a fledgling organization survive
(the aq has only been around for ~2 years now);

**the other reason may be related to the desire
to teach, since some of these same dive volunteers
also give presentations to the guests; if some
people/divers don't like to teach (or are not
interested or good at it), then perhaps volunteering
at the aq is not appealing to them; but for
those who are teachers/educators at heart,
diving and volunteering at the aq may offer them
the best of both their interests.

hope that helped some.

kelphead.
