Commercial and military have been diving it for years and years and years....
The only real barrier which has prevented it from becoming mainstream is the cost. The physiological and decompression benefits are not in dispute.
So there really isn't any type of guinea pig approach here, the research was completed in the 50's by the military. Commercial diver's rarely dive without He. But then again the military and commercial guys don't have the same economic concerns as John Q. Diver...
