I did exactly the same trip as above, twice last year.
One week in late August and one in late September.
The guys and gals on the Rio Rita are great to dive
with, just prove your not a danger to yourself or
others and away you go. We also saw a whale shark
on the second trip (snorkle only), but I never did
see the hammerheads (dang it!).

The La Paz dive season is pretty much July to the end of
September (they list more months, but these are the best, IMHO)

The Rio Rita is a slow boat, I mean slow, but take
a book, a CD player and just relax. Other than
the big stuff the diving is just so-so (compared to
the south pacific). The wreck
is the Salvateria (correct the spelling if you can).
It sunk because the captain (supposely was drunk)
and hit Swannie Reef (another nice shallow dive site
with Sea Horses.) 7 miles away.

Basically, by all means go to La Paz. It's a
great value for the cost and the diving is almost
always great. My group went this year ( I couldn't
go this time) and got there after a hurricane.
Diving was a bust, but it's a chance you always take.
