Shore Diving in/around San Diego -- Recommendations?

I'll be in San Diego Oct. 20-22 and am hoping to get in some diving. Where are good locations for shore dives? A good night dive for someone not familiar with the area? My husband and I are both AOW, are used to diving in/around Monterey ...
