I own twenty tanks so you can guess which side of the debate I'm on. I do a lot of multi-day diving on private boats, and I teach at times, hence the number. I find the maintenance a bit of a hassle, but not as much as renting. (By the way, a hydro is only required every five years, visual insp. annually)

Low pressure steel tanks are my favorites, (steel 72's) They're light & compact, hold sufficient air for my purposes (usually) and are easy to fill. Any compressor system can fill to 2250 psi, whereas many cannot fill to 3500. So HP tank owners sometimes have to settle for less than a good fill.

I own LP steel, HP steel and AL tanks, but the LP steel get by far the most use.

FWIW
