In one or two sentences, here's my stab:
Cost of a tank should not really be any concern if you dive in the first place and own all your other gear. Convenience, on the other hand, is worth much more than a few hundred bucks, and owning your own tank(s) means having what you like best and having the most convenient solution.
You only have to buy it once, but you get to enjoy it a lifetime.
