Easy answer for me own. All you have to do is get stuck working late and not be able to get to the dive shop before they close. Sure you can rent them in the morning, but your buddies are usually not happy missing the best parking near the beach. I own 6 tanks and will buy 2 more for my wife, she doesn't dive often, but it's such a pain to pick up her stuff.

Even more important (should have been at the top0 is safety. Ever since I bought my tank I have "NEVER" felt compelled to do a beach dive or lose the money on a rental. I've had a few 'colorful' conversations with people who had rented and didn't want to call the dive. Guess they were bad buddies to start with.
