Another solo death

The Ventura County Star reported this moring that on Sunday, 15 October 2000, at 6:30pm a 24 year old diver was pronounced dead. The diver had been diving solo off the breakwater La Jennel looking for lobster. The diver apparently got caught up in some kelp and drowned. A couple of bystanders attempted to rescue the diver from ashore but were unable to.
The report doesn't mention anything about if the diver had air in his tank, if there was air in his BCD, or if the diver was wearing his weight belt when rescue personnel pulled him out. If anyone has more information, I would like to hear more.
