MHK and Johnny Walker lead us to believe that 13 fatalities out of thousands of divers and dives this year is "horrendous". Au contraire. Given the diminished quality of current instruction it's a miracle the number isn't considerably higher. Notice how these guru types use any fatality to condemn self-reliant, independent diving while still ignorant of the facts and circumstance in each case. Independent diving is advanced diving and should never be attempted by inexperienced 24 year olds regardless the sea conditions.
