Back in 95 I drove down for a spell in Orange County.
My buddy and I wanted to dive Laguna, so we went to Sport
Chalet and got geared up. Cheap rental, but cheap gear.
No bottom timer of any sort (good thing I had gotten
a oceanic module unit), scary BC, and the weight belt was
3 10lb blocks. I was probably spoiled by nice (if $$)
rentals from Any Water Sports, but SC was definitely bottom
of the barrel. 2 months later I bought a full set.
Another more recent experience was with a closeout sale
of their nitrox tanks. I got a nitrox clean 30ft cylinder
that proved to be rather not clean - at some point it
had been filled with air. So I paid another $70 for a full
cleaning.
