ever had to do was to sign in on their sheet which
has a place to fill in my cert #. then i sign
an additional sheet of paper which is their waiver.
i have never been asked to actually show my
cert card, but if someone doesn't fill in the
right spot, then i'm sure they try to hunt that
person down (i would think).
...to be honest, the only time i remember having
to show my c-card was when i signed the paperwork
for the 'atlantis' boat (which no longer exists)
at their little kiosk on the dock (instead of
on the boat). all other times on the other
boats, i have signed in during the evening hours
when the crew was not yet aboard.
so, i would say that at least for the l.a. area,
your experience was not that unusual.
