i have mostly dived open boats ('encore', 'great
escape', 'peace', 'cypress point', 'atlantis' as
i mentioned before), and i normally don't go off
group chartered boats, but one group i do remember
chartering a boat that i joined was 'malibu divers'.
...i don't recall them asking to see my card. for
sure on the other open boats they didn't. perhaps those
were lax times...?...

i have not dived w/'reef seekers' or 'dive n surf'
chartered boats.

one time, i forgot to bring my c-card and i was
diving off the 'conception' as an open boat.
i was renting a tank from that dive shop on the
pier where the 'truth boats' are parked (although
i've been told that this shop is not associated
w/the 'truth' fleet[??]). since i couldn't show
them my c-card which was back at home, i instead
showed them my dive log book and tried to convince
them that i had indeed dived off the 'conception'
boat before and rented a tank from their shop before.

they looked through my log book and decided it was
ok, but they did look pretty concerned, which was
actually quite surprising to me.

i've done two local liveaboards (one on the 'peace'
and one on the 'encore') and, again, i don't remember
them asking to see our cards the next day when
the crew was on board and we were already on our
way. most of the trips where one has to board the
night before and the crew doesn't even show up til
late when the divers are all asleep and the boat
gets underway at ~midnight or 1am, it's kinda hard
to rouse everyone up to see their c-cards, and by
the time 6am or 7am rolls around and the boat is
anchored at the dive site, i would think it's kinda
too late then anyway.

i'm not condoning or condemning either way; i was
just confirming what margaret had experienced based
on my own personal experiences. that's all.
