The Dive shops I've delt with are the Valencia and Porter Ranch stores. The staff at both shops are all cert. divers, they are knowledgable, they probably couldn't give you specs. on a rebreather, but they can tell you about the gear in their shop. Also, they dive the gear they carry, so they can tell you a Delta 3 breaths or how a TX100 breaths.
I feel for MHK. I would be pissed too if a dive shop couldn't sell me a pony bottle with a DIN valve (when they could if they knew what they were doing) and I would never shop at a dive store whose staff didn't know the difference between DIN and Yoke or whose staff wasn't even cert.
