i think i know what the confusion is all about:

i am aware that long hoses aren't used w/octopus
regs, but isn't it true that one can get hoses
cut to whatever length one wants...?...

the issue in question is not the length of the
hose, but the grade of the hose. from
the post i ran across, a company is issuing
a warning that some hoses are meant to be used
only w/octopus regs and should not be used w/primary
regs.

this same warning apparently goes on to say that
those who are interested in getting a hose to use
as a long hose for their primary reg are actually
getting a hose (in a longer length) that should
not be used for primary regs. apparently, this
warning states that some people are getting hoses
cut long for them that are really supposed to
be used as a (regular length) hose for octo regs.

this warning implies that some divers are getting
cheated when it comes to purchasing a (long) hose
for their primary reg.

the thread is short and no resolution seems
to have come about re:the issue in question, which
is the quality of hose being passed on as a long
hose for a primary reg.

SO! does anyone else out there know anything about
quality of hoses and if there is such a thing
as using only one grade of hose for octo regs
while using a different grade of hose (long or short)
for primary regs??

it would seem to me that they both should be
of the same grade, but what do i know.

[[...eins, at least, seems to have understood
quite clearly what my initial post was all about...]]
