and drifting a few hundred feet while doing a real slow ascent followed by a safety stop, with 6 foot swells rolling overhead, i started to carry a home made jon-line. I will be buying one of those little wreck reels that MHK and others advocate shortly, when i have perhaps, an OE cert under my belt at which time, i will use that instead. The jon-line i carry is 15 feet in length. Perhaps its a bit long but i am thinking of the following scenario; 15-20 fsw for 3 to 5 min (or until a reverse squeeze should subside), with a howling 3 knot current and 6-9 foot swells on the surface. Hopefully others on the board will chime in /w/ their pros & cons.
