A jon line is a line ( usually 6' - 8' ) that many diver's use for hanging onto the anchoe line. In times of big swells or extended safety/decompression stops you would tie one end of the line to the anchor line and then clip off the other end to yourself. Especially when you are in currents or swells these are used so you can complete your stop, not need to hang onto an anchor line that is bobbing up and down and you won't get swept away by currents..
