What is the extra ballast good for?
IMHO, I assume that a diver is weighted properly so s/he can maintain neutral buoyancy during a blue water ascent and safety stop. Adding weight to that only requires more inflation of the BC, which, in turn, means more drag--the exact opposite of what you want when you have to fight a current.

Am I missing something?
