The body of missing diver Joo Hwan
Hong was identified Thursday, officials said.

The 45-year-old diver from Irvine did not surface for roll call
Sunday morning with his Korean dive group off Anacapa
Island.

His body was found floating in nearby waters by a
chartered dive boat Wednesday afternoon, U.S. Coast
Guard officials said.

Hong died from asphyxia by drowning, James Baroni of the
Ventura County Medical-Examiners Office said.

"He was tinkering with lobster traps and he may have run
out of air," Baroni said.

Hong was diving with the Ventura-based Explorer charter.

Hong's scuba equipment will be examined by a Camarillo
scuba business to rule out any obvious technical defects,
Baroni said.
