That's good for established groups, some dive shops, buddy searches and dive boats.
Next step, define how far you want to go and open the Yellow Pages. Start calling, see who you are comforatable with. Ask questions and satisfy yourself that they are interested in your safety and enjoyment and not just your money.
Suggestions from this board should also come in. I, speaking only for myself, like Pacific Wilderness in Orange (I've never been to the other, LA, store.)
Suggestion: Don't tolerate any store that insists that you buy your gear from them. I've been diving for years, and its still very rare to see two divers together who have matching gear. Buy the gear you are comfortable with and take your time researching it before buying.
