I have three sets of LP steel doubles (80s, 95s and 120s) and dive wet. I have, on two occasions forgot to put my weight pockets on before the dive. Even with the weight of the tanks, I still need to descend head first. At depth with no air in my BC, I had to struggle slightly to stay down. Fortunately, I ascended along my anchor rode so I had a controlled ascent. I prefer the steel tanks for their volume and buoyancy characteristics. Even with a wetsuit, I am able to remain neutrally buoyant at any depth with only 8-10 lbs of lead, dependant on which set of doubles I'm using. If I ever needed to ditch my weights, I could ditch five lbs at a time and still not have to worry about a rocket ride to the surface.
