chris, as you are well aware, there are many
different opinions by different folks on this
board so you should expect to get different
responses.

i will give you my opinion based on my experience
and setup--take what you will from it:

i, too, have an octo AND a 13cuft pony. the reason
i decided to keep the octo is in the event i vacation
and don't want to/can't take the pony w/me.

however, i didn't want a mess of hoses behind my
head, so i decided to go w/the 'sherwood shadow+'
in-line octo-inflator. now that i have a drysuit,
i'm back to 4 hoses out of my 1st stage, instead
of 3--i don't fancy a 5th one there.

so, i have the octo/inflator and the spg hoses
on my left, and i have my drysuit and primary
reg under my right arm.

my pony is strapped to the right side of the tank
behind me and the pony hose is under my right arm
and attached to the d-ring on my right shoulder.

if you are not going to go the hogarthian route
for an octo, and are concerned about the
ease of access to the pony reg, then why not
mount the pony 2nd stage as high up on the right
strap as you possibly can, as close to your
head as possible. just a suggestion. i would
personally choose to stay away from your 1st
choice that you mentioned: mounting the 2nd stage
close to the right bottom part of your b.c.--i
don't think that would be such a convenient place
to put it.

best wishes w/your setup.

kelphead.
