I couldn't agree more. My son got certified when he was 12. I gave him the OW textbook for Christmas when he was 11 and we enrolled him in a basic scuba class the next August. While some of the adults in his class hadn't even opened their crew packs before the first class, Tom had not only read the book from cover to cover, twice, but had also worked all of the pre-test and post-tests on his own.
I've DM'd classes with children in the past and found that half of the kids are too immature, while the other half were fantastic. That's about same ratio for so-called "adult" OW students.
