I'd get DM involved and discuss my impressions with DM. I'd find out if the diver in question has a significant other along with him and would then take that person aside to discuss the issue. Hopefully, that SO would use his influence on the diver.
If DM won't go along and no such SO is around, I hope I'd be able to manage what Wayne described: find the right tone to be heard and a way out to let the diver keep his face.
