"... the fin compensates for poor skills."
mike, i agree w/you completely that one should
learn to kick properly and to practice the
proper kick early on so as not to get into bad
habits later, BUT i feel the need to mention that not
everyone has "poor skills" b/c they are lazy.
many divers seriously have ankle, knee, and/or leg injuries
or, put another way, are just weaker in those
areas due to physiology, and to assume that someone
won't kick 'properly' w/o understanding that they
CAN'T is simply unfair, not to mention narrow minded.
as i've said before, on this board as well as others,
i've noticed that MOST of those who like the funky
types of fins are the same ones who have leg/knee
problems and try as they might, the traditional
paddle fin (which is what the 'scubapro jetfins' are)
are just too painful for them to use.
then there are other divers who HAVE tried the funky
new styles and didn't like them one bit (presumably
b/c they are using the 'proper' kick which is
not conducive w/the new funky fins).
again, i'm not disagreeing w/your theoretical
statement, but i do think it's unfair to judge
other divers who, beyond their own control, are
unable to kick the way you do.
