The dipping sport boomt world-wide. However in Germany there is to be skin divers over one million. Although accidents in the dipping sport occur relatively more rarely than in other kinds of sport, the sequences of dipping accidents are often serious or deadly. Substantial prerequisites for the security of the skin diver are physical suitability, a reliable equipment as well as a good formation. Since at the beginning of of 1999 a team of experts operates on a number of European standards with safety-relevant request to the formation in the dipping sport as well as for the qualification of teachers and providers of services in the leisure dipping (Tauchbasen/Clubs etc.). Considerable organizations, which offer services in the dipping sport in Germany, united together with other interested sets in the working comitee " dipping sport services " of the DIN, in order to assume the German interests in the EN WORKING GROUP (CEN = European committee for standardization). As the first result the collecting main for a European draft standard was adopted now over the request to the formation of skin divers, to which shortly the public to the statement one submits. The work on European level proves as very discussion intensive, there beside the different to consider already proven instruction systems also the most different dipping conditions in the European states is. The verabschiedung of the collecting main can be regarded therefore as milestone on the way to the comparability desired of different dipping formation supplies. The future draft standard describes the request to the qualifications of the divers in three performance levels: Basic knowledge for dipping under supervision, qualification to the independent diver as well as the qualification of a responsible person of director/conductor of a group of dipping. The standard is to describe substantial capability characteristics of the respective diver qualification and to make with it the different formation supplies more comparable. Expressly it was noted that by the standardization under any circumstances the current course supplies of the different organizations and federations are not replaced. The first performance level describes practical and theoretical course contents, which must be obtained, so that the diver under qualified guidance of an experienced diver up to a depth of 12 m can dip, in company of a qualified dipping teacher also to 20m. The performance level " independent diver " is for dipping with a dipping partner of same level of education up to a recommended maximum depth of 20m qualify. The third performance level describes the abilities, which a diver must possess, the groups of dipping or inexperienced divers leads, e.g. divers of the first performance level.
