Mike,
Diving without a BC is an advanced technique that can be very safe when done properly.
Most of the best, but not all, bug hunters dive this way for the reduced drag and increased mobility it offers.
It is not a method of diving suitable for the casual diver, but offers great advantages to those that enjoy hunting, and dive regularly.
Your complete dismissal of this and other techniques that do not adhere to the cult of DIR's philosophy only demonstrates you own ignorance.
They are many safe ways to dive, the key to which is the diver that practices them. Would you advocate a new diver strap on doubles and stage tanks like you do?
Diving without a BC can be very safe method of diving, when practice properly. Perhaps one day you will open your mind to see beyond the cult of DIR.
