It finally fell apart and had to be retired. It had every good feature you mention and lacked nearly every problem you mention. The inflator was all metal and lasted over 25 years with never a single problem.

But now I have switched to a jacket style BC. A Cressi Sub that I am in love with. It has about 100 dives and the only problem so far is the plastic buckle on the tank strap. Maybe I tighten it too much on each dive, but the replacement seems a bit heavier. But it was easily changed and I did not miss a dive. The cost of the new strap was about a quarter per dive. Cheap maintenance. My reg is $45/year if nothing goes wrong (ScubaPro lifetime warranty on parts is great). I'll bet I spend more on diet coke on dive trips than on maintenance!
