I thought advances in gear technology and materials was supposed to reduce, not increase Failure Points. Never once in 36 years of active diving have I had a gear failure that wasn't directly caused by my own neglect or misuse. As to Chris' comments about diving without a BC, what came first, scuba diving or BC's? I guess before they were invented and mandated we all dove stupid back then. Properly weighted, I don't recall ever having had a problem without one. Is our gear now so crappy and failure prone that we have to have redundant everything? Or is redundancy a DEMA marketing gimmick.
