It does take practice. The best way to do it is to hold the inflator hose up and push the inflator button and exhaust button simultaneously. You thereby simulate a massive free flow through the inflator as you practice pulling the hose. You should get to the point where you can pull the hose within about 3 seconds. If you have a continuing problem, consider using an LP hose with a bigger flange.
