Given that it is clear that neither one of you dive DIR ( or atleast as I understand that to be the case ), you may want to consider that to the extent you have an alternative gear configuration that you pay particular attention to the coefficents of drag.
I recognize that for your own particular reasons you feel DIR doesn't provide adequate gear, but whatever configuration you settle on, realize that we all strive for added BT's, whether roaming reefs, penetrating wrecks or whatever. And by adding volume you are increasing drag which is counter productive..
