Beginning to understand.
The equivalent is the difference in depending on electronic navigation instruments, which can fail, in blue water navigation and not being able to "shoot a star" with a sextant which never fails given the expertise to use it. Bottom line: regardless the the expensive electronics aboard, be sextant savvy or hit a reef, the equivelant of getting a DCS hit. Comprende.
"All too many diver's are reliant upon computers and know nothing at all about decompression other than the fact that the computer has 1 pixal in the yellow or red and it's time to ascend... What happens if you are at 100', your computer is in the red and you figure it's time to go up, but at that moment the battery dies??????? What do you do????"
ASCEND!!! Controlled, of course.
