Maciek, there is not much you can do with a leaking hose UW. What you an your buddy should do, is do a bubble check in the water before you go down. I have only seen a few LP hoses blow, but I have seen lots of HP hoses blow and they almost always leak and balloon out before they go.
The key on equipment problems is that you recognize and solve them before you get into the water.
