You can't keep a fool and his money together no matter what. The only hope for the new diver is that they get educated enough about what constitutes good, durable, evolveable gear that they buy stuff that lasts them thousands of dives. That's another reason to support the independant dive shop that stocks quality gear and is staffed by quality people. I'd rather pay twice as much for gear that I'll use five times as long.
