Understand the concept, Terry, but what if the buddy takes a turn for the worst, i.e. propels him/herself into the wrong branch of the cave and you become separated? I'm still very wary of buddy dependence as opposed to self independence. Hold off, flamers, I'm not posting this as a pitch for independent diving. I'm not a caver so I'm still trying to comprehend DIR procedures.
