I suppose I can speak on this issue because I am one. I find that the more I know about diving of ALL types, the better diver I am. If I am kept to a sterile, spoon-fed, non-controversial environment I don't learn and I often feel bored. I value many of the more experienced people's opinions on this BBS. I find that I am exposed to new and different ideas that I may investigate more carfully. I may also hear of something I didn't know existed in diving (some of the tech stuff for example). This certainly doesn't mean that I'm going to sign up for the next Materhorn trip and switch to DIR with a back-plate, doubles, and gasses not found on the periodic table. I enjoy learning for the sake of learning not for personal advancment. That is my .02 which I had to cut short because it is time to go in. Bye.
